Field Trips Everyone's invited, field trips are open to the public! If you would like to help support Colorado Field Ornithologists, please become a member or make a donation. Lamar, Prowers County Ranches and Two Buttes May 9 - 11 Join Joe Roller for a repeat of last year's very successful trip. Group will bird Lamar area "hot spots" on Friday en route and stay at private ranches on Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday will be a full day of birding private ranches in excellent riparian and woodlot areas in southern Prowers County. The ranches visited will include the Rocking 7K, Taylor and Frank ranches. On Sunday the group will visit the Two Buttes area and return home at their leisure. This should be near the height of passerine migration for these migrant traps. Last year's trip recorded Mountain Plover, Common Poor-will, Barn Owl, White-eyed Vireo, and Chestnut-sided, Kentucky, Nashville, and Yellow-throated Warblers. Burrowing Owls and Mountain Plovers are already on territory. Cost for full trip will be $145 for single person and $240 per couple which includes two nights lodging and four meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday breakfast). Friday dinner is also available at $15 and Sunday bag lunch at $10. Adjustments will be made for folks not arriving until Saturday morning. For more details and sign-up, please contact Judi Ogle. Limited to 12 participants. Kim Area Ranches for Hepatic Tanagers and Migrants May 31 - June 1 Ira Sanders will lead a repeat of his very successful '07 field trip. The cost is $90 per person which includes Saturday night lodging and Saturday dinner. This trip will visit area private ranches to search for nesting Hepatic Tanagers and other migrants and breeding species near the New Mexico and Oklahoma borders. The ranches visited will be the Bader, Lazy UO, and Everett Jackson properties. Last year's sightings included three Hepatic Tanagers, Summer Tanager, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and nesting Mississippi Kites. There is always a chance for rarities in this part of the state. Friday accommodations can be arranged for an additional $25 per person. Prices may vary slightly depending on the number of participants. For more information and to sign-up, please contact Nathan Pieplow Limited to 12 participants. Notice To Field Trip Participants: Please contact the field trip leader(s) at least one week in advance if you intend to participate on a CFO field trip. In many cases, CFO field trips visit areas where we must either limit the number of participants or give notice of the number of participants we will have. In all cases, knowing the number of participants in advance helps the leader(s) to plan the best possible trip and ensures that you know where/when to join the trip and any other important information. Please arrive no later than the scheduled meeting time; leaders may not be able to delay departure for late arrivals. |
